Charles' main passion has always been drawing, and in particular drawing people. However for Charles, the act of drawing can take many forms, from simple pencil sketching to watercolours and pastels, even to scratching, cutting, and tearing the surface of a picture. Sometimes adding pieces of cloth and coloured paper, and rebuilding pictures from the torn remains of other drawings, he has found that a line which is cut or torn has as much potency as a line which is drawn.

His current set of drawings have thus evolved into threedimensional collages which are all these things, and sometimes struggle to keep within the frame of the picture. Yet for all that they remain drawings, drawings of people, set within the timehonoured artistic tradition of life figure drawing.
