| I make bottles, bowls and abstract vessels inspired by ancient art and archaeology. Each is individually raku-fired, imparting dramatic smoke patterning to the surfaces. (These may be stoneware clays stained with oxides and burnished or, increasingly, terra sigillatas: very fine handmade clay slips of the type used in ancient Greek red and black ware, yielding attractive smoke and reduction effects). |
