7:30pm
Poetry and Jazz in ConcertHADCAF presents:
Poetry and Jazz in Concert
with Dannie Abse CBE, Alan Brownjohn, Jeremy Robson and Sasha Mitchell
The Croft Hall, Hungerford

With music by the Barry Green Trio with Tim Wells (bass) and Trevor Tomkins (drums)

As a very young poet, Jeremy Robson organised the first Poetry & Jazz Concert in London in 1961. It was the hugely successful prelude to hundreds of such concerts around the country involving many distinguished poets including Ted Hughes, Dannie Abse, Laurie Lee, Alan Brownjohn, Stevie Smith, Vernon Scannell, Adrian Mitchell, Peter Porter and Jeremy himself - and even, on occasion, Spike Milligan reading his comic verse.

Interspersing the poems - sometimes actually accompanying them - the music was generally specially written by the late Michael Garrick, one of the most influential figures in British jazz.

This evening’s concert follows the special 50th Anniversary Concert arranged by Jeremy Robson last year, and features readings from their own work by the same cast of distinguished poets, together with actress and singer Sasha Mitchell who reads and sings her late father Adrian’s poems.

8-11 pm
Hungerford Jazz ForumHungerford Jazz Forum presents:
Hungerford Jazz Forum
Royal British Legion, Church Way, Hungerford

The Hungerford Jazz Forum was set up by Andy Richardson and George Wicks in 2002.

The idea behind HJF was, and still is, to give performers of all ages the opportunity to perform for a live audience in a friendly environment.

Beginning and intermediate players are welcome as we recognise that doing it for real is the best experience there is. Woodshedding is essential but it's a waste of time if you don't get up and blow!

HJF is pleased to recognise the support from a wide range of musicians and we are proud that we also have support from young musicians who are still at school.
