Thoroughly Modern Millie
Watermill Theatre, Bagnor, Newbury
Directed by Caroline Leslie
Musical musical arrangements by Paul Herbert
Choreography by Alistair David
Designed by Tom Rogers
Lighting designed by Philip Gladwell
Sound designed by Peter Rice
Assistant Director Tom O’Brien
It’s the roaring 20’s, Millie Dillmount from Kansas, steps off the train into a New York city filled with speakeasies, frivolous flappers and the pulsating sounds of syncopated jazz. America has thrown off its inhibitions and anything goes! Millie’s ‘modern’ plan is to work in a typing pool and marry the wealthy boss. But then she meets and falls in love with Jimmy, a man without a dime to his name... or so she thinks.
Filled with characters you’ll love, some you’ll love to hate, and great musical numbers, this high-energy, romantic comedy took Broadway by storm, winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. From the creative team behind The Watermill’s sell-out production of Radio Times.
