Kennet Amateur Theatrical Society (KATS)Kennet Amateur Theatrical Society (KATS)

Kennet Amateur Theatrical Society was formed in 1966, initially as an offshoot of the Kennet School PTA in Thatcham. Although they became an independent society many years ago, they are still affiliated to the school and stage all their productions in the Hall.

KATS is renowned throughout the Thatcham and Newbury area for their wide range of popular entertainment.

Their busy Schedule means that they are always looking for new members to share the load. If you're interested in joining them, as a performer, musician, in front of house or in any backstage capacity, please see the Membership page on their website www.kats.org.uk.

KATS normally stage three public productions a year. The Pantomime is staged in February, a musical show or play in late summer and a travelling show for local retirement homes in December.

Kittens is their 'nursery', if you've never directed before and would like to try - Kittens provides a forum for you to hone your skills.

New Era Theatre ClubNew Era Theatre Club

This small, friendly and very successful theatre club was established in Wash Common, Newbury, in 1978. New Era is a theatre club for anyone interested in participating in first class amateur theatrical productions either as a director, performer, technician, back-stage helper or as an audience member.

Share the experience of performing on stage; join the challenge of set-building or the creativity of costume design; enjoy the teamwork in whatever direction your talents take you. You could be an active participant in their future productions, or join for play readings, workshops, theatre outings and a variety of social events.

New Era produces four plays each year and has the good fortune to have its own small theatre which means that rehearsals are held in the same space as performances and the production can have a longer run than most amateur groups achieve. The theatre is on the Andover Road, Wash Common, beside St George's Church.

Newbury Youth Theatre

www.newburyyouththeatre.co.uk aims to provide local young people with the opportunity to develop their theatrical skills and interests, explore the arts in general and learn more about themselves as individuals.

Founded in 1983, NYT has at it's heart the mission to focus upon plays which reflect the concerns and issues of young people today and to present these to new and existing audiences in new and exciting ways. In this way the group are tackling contemporary issues which are relevant to their own experiences and the members learn more about themselves as well as making a rich contribution to the town's cultural life. The company has, through this work, gained much critical acclaim locally and across the region.

Meetings take place in The Corn Exchange, Newbury which helps to provide a wide range of activities from weekly workshops and theatre visits, to technical courses, directing and work experience placements.

There are no auditions or restriction on membership apart from a level of commitment from members to support each other, have energy, enthusiasm and a love of theatre.

The Riverside PlayersThe Riverside Players

The Riverside Players are no ordinary theatrical company. Every August, their only yearly performance is rehearsed, staged and performed in just two weeks!

Formed in 1951 by former students of the Central School of Speech and Drama, the Riverside Players have been based at Pangbourne College for around ten years now.

New members are always welcome, whatever aspect of theatre they like, as we run on a very ad hoc basis with company members changing roles from year to year.
